The education and information site for parents

Food and fitness

Jamie Oliver has certainly highlighted the fact that children should have a nutritious school dinner! He has even managed to revolutionise ‘Packed lunches’!
This is great but it is now over to the parents to help build on the start that this publicity and 'Healthy Eating' in general has generated over the past few months.

I think that it is worth fighting for the best for each and every child and to ensure that they have a fit and healthy future

  • Do you know what is happening at your school in regard to food and fitnness for all ages of children?
  • Has the Govenrment initiative on the Fruit and Vegetable scheme been implemented?
  • Does your child have access to drinking water all day?
  • Is there a choice provided at lunchtime and are there fresh vegetables and fruit?
  • What is the policy on sport?
  • How many lessons of physical education are there in your child's timetable?

Find out the amount of sport that is available.

Both Healthy eating and fitness can and will make a difference to a growing child.

When you have this information make sure that other parents are aware. Perhaps there is a practical way that the 'Parents Association' can help and be involved. No school has unlimited funds and this is a constructive way to enable every child to enjoy team games, swimming, dance, and become fitter and hence healthier!

Don't take NO for an answer. Your child deserves a full and healthy life.
