Is your child in danger?

Childrens' bodies grow much more quickly than those of adults so it is important that a child's weight is controlled and recorded. There is a tendency nowadays for some children to gain too much weight and some may verge on the side of obesity.

To check your child's weight use 'The Body Mass Index' This formula can help you calculate the body mass against age and sex

1. Take an accurate reading of your child's weight and height

2.Then divide the wieght in pounds by the height in inches.

3.Divide this by the height by the height in inches and multiply the answer by 703.

weight(lbs)/height(ins)/height(ins)x703=BMI

3. This figure needs to be plotted against the specific graph for your child's age and sex.You can find this at either
www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/.
or at
www.norwichunion.com/bmi
