school

It is an exciting day when your child wears their school uniform and attends 'Big school’ for the first time. Most parents find this an emotional day as suddenly their baby looks much more ‘grown up’. Primary schools may all have different starting times and the length of the school day could vary for Reception children.

Hopefully your child has had a taster morning at school and has met their teacher and knows some other children.

You may have decided to send your child to an Independent school. All schools should have a prospectus so that you and your child can discuss going to school, enjoy the pictures and perhaps prepare photographs of their family to show at school.

Some of these questions will get different answers from individual schools. Head teachers and staff are used to answering all sorts of queries so please do not hesitate to ask. They are the people who can help you and hence your child.

The government are currently suggesting an extended school day from early morning to 6.00 o’clock at night. This is known as ‘wrap-around-care’. For further information please refer to our pages on Extended schools.

school lunches
Also topical are healthy eating and ‘Jamie Oliver’s School Dinners’. Make sure that you know what the policy is at your child’s school especially if you are providing packed lunches. Parents in Touch also has a page on Healthy Eating.
All these topics and questions, and many more, are covered by Parents in Touch.
