The education and information site for parents

Child care and early schooling

It does not take long for your baby to grow up! In no time at all you may have to return to work and need someone or somewhere for your baby to go where they will be loved, cared for and allowed to mature. Not every mother wants to leave their baby but it is sometimes necessary to look to the future and to look at nurseries and schools while your baby is small. All children need to have contact with others the same age so that they learn from one another.

There are numerous options for child care and schooling and everyone wants a safe haven that suits their child. In this section I have discussed many of the alternatives and the way in which they work.

The government has increasing control over childcare and is gradually investing more money in this. All staff do need to be qualified and to have experience and there are numerous Health and Safety issues in schools, nurseries etc to safeguard children.

  • Do you know the questions to ask?
  • Are you aware of the necessary qualifications?
  • Had you thought of all the options?
  • Do you know the difference between Montessori and Steiner schools?
  • Do you know about the Early Years Grant?

These are just some of the questions answered by Parents in Touch. As a parent, please research all the alternatives and do not be afraid to ask questions. Make sure that you go and look at all the possible choices. You have to go in the end with your basic instinct as what is right for you, your child and your way of life.

In the current climate the government is initiating various childcare changes. This includes Birth to three matters and Every child matters.
