 Preparing for the new baby

Time to celebrate but also there are many preparations to be made. The arrival of a new baby, especially a first baby, is very exciting but also very busy!
  • What do we need?
  • Where are we going to live?
  • Which hospital for the birth?
  • How do I tell people?
  • How to claim Maternity Allowance
  • Is it a girl or a boy?

These are a few of the questions that may immediately run through your heads. My advice would be enjoy the pregnancy and wait until the last few months before making any life-changing decisions.

Good medical advice early and continual monitoring of both the baby and Mum are both essential, and exciting. The decision about the type of birth is essentially a personal one but babies have the habit of changing all the best laid plans!

happy baby Future Fathers usually like to be involved and new Mums need all the support that they can get! Grandparents are great but remember the new baby is yours and they have had this experience. Listen and be polite but make your own decisions. Times have changed and the extended family is a great idea but use this to your advantage and not because you feel guilty! Built-in baby sitters are necessary but life is more liberal now and babies are accepted in most places and at most times. It is a good idea however to get the baby used to being away from you and especially with someone else who loves them.
